SKETCHBOOK IN THE NEWS

We are proud to announce that Collaboraction's 8th annual SKETCHBOOK Festival will be presented again at the Steppenwolf Garage as a part of Steppenwolf Theatre Company's Visiting Company Initiative from May 15th - June 15th, 2008.

Featuring 14 world premiere short plays written by a combination of emerging and established playwrights, Collaboraction's annual SKETCHBOOK Festival has, during its 8-year history, grown into one of Chicago's most electrifying annual events.  SKETCHBOOK 8 is comprised of two programs, performed in rotating repertory in an immersive environment, which arranges the 14 fascinating short plays into separate not-to-be missed evenings.

The Sketchbook Festival breaks down the walls that divide theater, music, visual art, video and the Internet, transforming the Steppenwolf Garage into a singular world where audiences can be both spectator and artist, contributing to the dynamism of each performance. Selected from hundreds of submissions via the internet, SKETCHBOOK presents a collection of contemporary and uncensored perspectives on modern life.

SKETCHBOOK features the collective talents of more than 150 innovative directors, designers, actors, musicians and artists from Chicago and around the country.  This year, the roster of playwrights includes such critically acclaimed authors as Academy Award nominee Jose Rivera, Sean Graney, Greg Allen, Emily Shwartz, Itamar Moses and more.

Collaboraction’s Annual SKETCHBOOK Festival breaks down the walls that divide theater, music, visual art and the Internet, transforming the Steppenwolf Garage into a singular world.  SKETCHBOOK presents a collection of contemporary and uncensored perspectives on modern life in 14 world premiere plays.   Hundreds of playwrights submit up to 3 new plays via the internet which are read and paired down by a select reading committee, the literary department and the producers of Sketchbook.  The directors undergo a rigorous selection process reading our top play submissions and submit 3 vision proposals.  From those submitted visions (nearly 1000) the producers and literary team SKETCHBOOK is born.  This year for the first time ever audiences can be both spectator and artist, contributing to the dynamism of each performance.

Collaboraction is sending out a nationwide call.

Come artists, art lovers and everyone in between!
Participate today in this year’s Festival and
submit your work: written, visual or sonic.
