After 9 years of the SKETCHBOOK Festival including over 5000 short plays submitted and 138 world premiere short plays produced
for over 30,000 audience members, the theme for the 10th annual SKETCHBOOK festival is:
SKETCHBOOKx
x= Exponential
The Chopin Theatre
Collaboraction is looking to explore the idea of the Exponential through non-traditional short plays, devised theatre pieces, music, and visual art. Manifestations of this concept include:
- scale, micro to macro
- ripple effect, how one's actions today can bear infinite effects in the world tomorrow
- the exponent, something that is continuously growing
- and more possibilities
In addition to the usual playwright submissions and director applications, we opened up the process to creators of all sorts to propose an original work of live art that explores this theme. Collaboraction strongly encourages the submission of risk taking pieces. For submission forms and audition information, see below.
What does exponential mean to you? Can it capture the world at large? Does it affect what it means to be human?

Playwright World Premier Short Plays Submissions
SKETCHBOOK seeks world premiere short plays of less than seven pages and seven minutes. It is highly encouraged that submitters take a risk and explore theatrical possibilities in regards to form, concept and staging.
Devised or Ensemble Generated World Premier Short Works Submissions
SKETCHBOOK seeks submissions from directors and/or theater ensembles to create a piece of theatre under seven minutes through a process that is led by a vision or idea, as opposed to a scripted play
